The LEN European Junior Open Water Swimming Championships (EJOWSC) in Tenero will be the 13th time that the competition has been held.

The LEN EJOWSC is an annual open water swimming competition for European elite athletes under the age of 19. The event was first held in 2003 in Seville. In the first years, the young open water swimmers (16-18 years girls and 17-19 years boys) competed over the distance of 5 km.

In 2012 the two age groups were introduced and included a youth category (15-16 years) and a junior category (17-18 years). In the youth category, the boys and girls competed over a 5 km course and in the junior category over a 7.5 km course. Also mixed team event was added to the programme. The team event was carried out as a „time trial“ with the mixed teams of three swimmers (and minimum of one male and one female athlete regardless of the age category) that started in one-minute intervals.
